#BrendinHorner: Protester calls for justice - VIDEO─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:09 Tue, 08 Jun 2021
A man known for chaining himself in shackles whilst protesting against farm murders, Phakamile Sitho, has called for justice to be served in the Senekal Magistrate's Court in the Free State on Tuesday.
This is where two suspects, Sekwetje Mahlamba and Sekola Matlaletsa, are due back in court, allegedly for the murder of young farm manager, Brendin Horner. Sitho says he is present today in court to support both black and white farmers and make his voice heard against the threat to food security.
He accuses politicians such as EFF leader Julius Malema, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and President Cyril Ramaphosa, of failing to lead the nation to prosperity. He says the trio, amongst others, are unashamedly misleading the people of the country. Sitho has called for the proposed expropriation of land without compensation to be stopped.
"I am the voice of the farmers - black farmers, Indian farmers, coloured and white farmers. I am here to support Brendin Horner's family, the (farm manager) killed by the corrupt people. Today I'm going to expose this government, where they say that there are no farm killings. [President Cyril Ramaphosa] denied these farm killings," he adds.
Sitho is, amongst others, flanked by young men who are also here to support his cause against the threat to food security. He says he travelled from the Eastern Cape province to come and support the family of the young man who was brutally murdered in October 2020 at Paul Roux near Fateng Tse Ntsho.
"I will say to South Africans that we must unite and say enough is enough. And today justice must be done because we live in a corrupt government," he adds.
The murder of Horner evoked emotions from all quarters of South Africa and saw a large contingent of protestors descending to the small farming town of Senekal where chaos broke out in and outside of the court.
This led to the burning of a police vehicle. Two people, André Pienaar and Stephanus Johannes Fourie, were arrested for their alleged role in the protests. The two face charges of public violence and attempted murder, amongst others. They are both out on R15 000 bail.
