The decision to dismiss him followed the conclusion on 6 May 2021of a disciplinary hearing. The hearing was initiated by the department against Mothupi.

North West Department of Public Works and Roads spokesperson, Matshube Mfooloe, told OFM News that Mothupi was suspended by former minister Thulas Nxesi in 2018.

Nxesi also placed the department under administration, according to section 100 (1) (b). Mothupi was charged with gross misconduct.  

Mfooloe says De Lille has informed the former HOD that he may declare a dispute with the relevant bargaining council if not satisfied with the outcome of the hearing.

According to the DA in the North West, Mothupi was suspended for his alleged involvement in irregular advancement of R103 million to Ayamah Consulting Engineers for the refurbishment of roads in the province.
