Protester at #BrendinHorner court case concerned about food security─── 11:05 Wed, 09 Jun 2021
"The farm killings that have been taking place in our country may have an effect on the country’s food security." This is according to Phakamile Sitho, known for locking himself in shackles while protesting against farm murders.
Sitho has called for justice to be served in the Senekal Magistrate's Court in the Free State on Tuesday, where the two murder suspects appeared briefly. He said that killing farmers pose a great threat to food security in our country, as farmers are the ones who produce food. Sitho further states that land expropriation without compensation has to be stopped, as this is one of the things that lead to farm killings in the country. ‘’They say we get food from the food market stores, they are wrong, the food comes from the farmers,” said Sitho.
OFM News previously reported that Sitho was flanked by other young people who were also at the Senekal Magistrate's Court to support his cause against the threat to food security, amongst other things. He said that he travelled from the Eastern Cape to come and give support to the family of the young man who was brutally murdered in October 2020 at Paul Roux near Fateng Tse Ntsho.
The murder of Horner evoked emotions from all quarters of South Africa and saw a group of protesters descending on the small farming town of Senekal where chaos broke out in and outside of court.
