NW Legislature encounters complaints during oversight visits | News Article

The North West Provincial Legislature visited schools earlier on Thursday, as part of the oversight week that they have been embarking on at various municipalities.

The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, and the Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts, Culture, and Traditional Affairs have been visiting schools and libraries for oversight inspections.

Schools that were visited by the committee include Tshedimosetso Secondary in Joubertina and Pelokgale Primary. According to the statement issued by North West Provincial Legislature, the principal of Tshedimosetso Secondary highlighted the issues of drug abuse, progressed learners, and parents who are not interested in the education of their children, amongst other things that concern them.

Meanwhile, the principal of Pelokgale Primary raised concerns about the lack of space, furniture in classrooms, and toilet facilities to accommodate 1 047 Grade R to Grade 7 school learners. However, the principal indicated that class rotation - effected by Cocid-19 regulations, has helped as they are now able to accommodate learners.

The committee also went to the Orkney and Matlosana Libraries, where they found that both libraries are functioning well, except for internet access and adequate security that were reported as challenges. The committee promised to contact the departments involved to account for all challenges that were reported.
