Sol Plaatje pumps vandalised─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:46 Wed, 16 Jun 2021
The troubled Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, which includes Kimberley in the Northern Cape, says its water pumping stations have been vandalised and electrical mini substations have been stripped to the ground with nothing left.
The municipality in a statement says this was discovered after the executive mayor, Patrick Mabilo, and members of his mayoral committee and others conducted an oversight visit to pumping stations.
The municipality, which has recently battled burst water pipes, says it visited the Gogga-, White City-, Camilia- and Sunset Manor pump stations.
It was discovered that the Midlands and Roodepan Cemetery pump stations, which also pump water to Homevale Treatment Works, were the two affected pumps.
The municipality adds that a contractor has been appointed to refurbish the stations.
“Operations of the five stations in the whole area were inspected throughout the day by the Executive Mayor, MMCs and the technical teams. Both Camilia and Sunset stations pump through to Eagle Street pump station and then to Homevale Waste Water Treatment Works,” the municipality adds.
