NC Education Department tables its budget for 2021/22─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:48 Wed, 16 Jun 2021
The Northern Cape Department of Education's MEC, Zolile Monakali, has tabled his department’s R7.14 billion budget for the 2021/22 financial year.
Monakali announced that an amount of R5.3 billion was allocated to the Public Ordinary Schools Education, which is receiving the biggest portion of the budget.
Education Management was also boosted by the allocation of R286 million, which is set to address issues of key programmes.
Monakali also revealed that his department maintained an unqualified audit report for the 2019/20 financial year.
“We remain committed to addressing the weaknesses raised by the Auditor General (AG). Our Audit Implementation Plan addresses the areas of improvement and we will communicate quarterly on our progress to the various oversight structures,” he said.
“An amount of R240.25 million has been allocated for this purpose to schools which possess the relevant SASA Section 21 functions. As a result of the above, the allocated funding for no-fee schools represents 82.11% of the total norms and standards funding provided towards Public Ordinary Schooling Education,” he adds.
Monakali says in terms of the no-fee school policy, 408 schools in quintiles 1, 2 and 3 are declared No Fee Schools, which is 75% of the total schools in the Northern Cape.
“This represents 70.17% of learners in no-fee schools which exceeds the national prescribed percentage by 8.67%,” he further adds.
