#GBV: NW man in court for girlfriend's murder─── LUCKY NKUYANE 06:21 Thu, 17 Jun 2021
A 34-year-old year North West man is to appear at the Moretele Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice after the mutilated body of his girlfriend was discovered in a shallow grave.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says Samuel John Noko is alleged to have murdered the 29-year-old woman, Monni Monyeki, and buried her in a shallow grave near a river in Mathibestad near Makapanstad.
He says Monyeki went missing after she went allegedly with Noko to perform rituals. Noko later during probing by the police, pointed to where Monyeki had been buried. Mamothame says he is also facing another charge of rape of a 14-year-old girl who he allegedly raped during the time where his girlfriend was missing.
"Shortly afterwards, the accused was spotted pushing the deceased in a wheelbarrow after she allegedly had consumed a substance that made her dizzy. Following this incident, she allegedly never showed up at her home.
"The Moretele Magistrate's Court postponed the murder case against Noko to 17 June 2021 for further investigations,” he adds.
Noko previously appeared in court but he was remanded in custody for his next court appearance for further investigations.
