The Emfuleni Local Municipality, which includes Vereeniging, Sebokeng, Vanderbiljpark, and Sharpeville, has been declared a Covid-19 epicentre, by the Gauteng Covid-19 command council.
This follows after Emfuleni saw a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, Emfuleni Mayor Gift Moarane is in quarantine, after he came in contact with three officials from the Department of Water and Sanitation, who tested positive for Covid-19.
There are other members of the Mayoral Committee and municipal officials who came into contact with the said officials.
The mayor was scheduled to deliver his state of the Municipality Address (SOMA) on Friday.
