#SchoolViolence: NW parent due in court─── 10:55 Tue, 22 Jun 2021
A parent who allegedly assaulted a 53-year-old female teacher at the Phera Primary School in the Tsetse Village near Mahikeng, has been warned to appear before the Tsetse Magistrate’s Court in the North West on Thursday.
This follows investigations by the police of the alleged assault of a teacher by the suspect. Police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh confirms that the woman is expected to appear at the said court on Thursday 24 June 2021.
The North West Department of Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela, condemned violence against teachers in schools. Meanwhile, the South African Democratic Teacher’s Union (Sadtu) has called for the North West Department of Education to tighten security across the province. OFM News had previously reported that the department’s investigations revealed that two learners, who are both children of the parent who assaulted the teacher, never arrived at school, as their names were not on the register for that day.
Meanwhile, North West Department of Education spokesperson, Elias Malindi, has stated that a team of psychologists has been tasked to conduct counselling for both learners and teachers at the school.
