Hawkers say “Enough is enough”─── 15:38 Tue, 22 Jun 2021
Qwaqwa hawkers in the Free State went on strike this morning.
They demand to be reinstated at their spots in the Setsing Shopping Centre. This follows a municipal instruction to halt them from plying their trade.
It is alleged that the municipality wants them to vacate the area as more projects are waiting to work for the center's development.
One of the hawkers, Mamokete Mofokeng, says there is “nowhere we can go and work”. She adds that they will keep striking for their rights.
OFM News unsuccessfully tried to reach the centre manager for comment. Attempts to contact him and the municipality are ongoing.
