#BrendinHorner: Suspects out on bail | News Article

Two men accused of killing a young farm manager, Brendin Horner, in Paul Roux have been granted bail of R5 000 in the Senekal Magistrate's Court in the Free State.

The defence counsel, Advocate Machini Motloung, told OFM News that on Tuesday the court ruled in favour of their argument to grant the first accused, Sekwetja Mahlamba, and the second accused, Sekola Matlaletsa, bail on new facts.

The matter against the two has now been transferred to the Circuit High Court sitting in Bethlehem, where a pre-trial will start on 23 August 2021.

The two face charges of robbery, murder, and stock theft following the murder of Horner in October 2020. OFM News previously reported the state's DNA test results of blood samples taken from the accused’s clothes came back negative, and did not match Horner's blood.

The prosecutor also removed himself from the case a few weeks after the DNA results came back negative.

Motloung previously said they did not want the case to be transferred to the High Court while their clients are still in custody.

Mahlamba and Matlaletsa pleaded not guilty to the murder and robbery charges. The two have been in custody since October 2020. They were arrested in October 2020, following the discovery of Horner's body. Horner had sustained stab wounds to his head, shoulders, and hands.
