This, as the vaccination of teachers and non-teaching staff against Covid-19 commenced on Wednesday. Thousands were seen at the Gonyane Primary School in Bloemfontein where the MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe, launched the programme. Makgoe confirmed to OFM News that they are expecting to vaccinate a total of 32 000 personnel by the end of the term with 26 000 of them being educators.

OFM News has reported that more than 800 education personnel had been vaccinated at the Gonyane Primary School alone by Wednesday afternoon. This is despite a demonstration by a group of disgruntled educators and non-teaching staff who complained of poor planning by the department.

Free State Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, told OFM News they have since resolved challenges experienced on the first day of vaccination and now expect high numbers without any glitches.
