#VaccinateNC: Motshekga monitors teachers─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:32 Tue, 29 Jun 2021
The vaccination of teachers and support staff in the Northern Cape will be under scrutiny on Tuesday.
This, as Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is expected to visit the province. Her department in a statement confirms her visit is to monitor the vaccines rollout programme in the province.
Motshekga's visit to Kimberley comes just a day after she visited the Free State where she expressed her confidence with how the province is inoculating educators and non-teaching staff.
She said she is pleased that the province has vaccinated almost 50% of its 32 000 target and that it aims to complete the process within 10 days as opposed to the 14 days afforded to all provinces.
The Northern Cape is amongst the provinces that have been severely affected by the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic with President Cyril Ramaphosa expressing concern at the level of positive active cases.
Provincial Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, has in a statement meanwhile confirmed that the department is making progress with the vaccination rollout programme to educators and support staff.
He said over 3 000 people in the Education sector have been vaccinated so far in the province.
Van der Merwe further confirmed that a number of schools still face closure due to Covid-19 infections.
