Premiership in North West 'not a free for all'─── LUCKY NKUYANE 15:52 Mon, 05 Jul 2021
The ANC Inter-Provincial Committee (IPC) says the position of the premiership in the North West will not be a free for all.
This amidst rumours that former Human Settlements MEC and ANC youth league (ANCYL) president, Collen Maine, is being touted as the new premier. This as the current premier, Job Mokgoro, Job Dliso, and others have their ANC membership suspended by the IPC whilst the disciplinary process against them continues. ANC IPC Coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, says the position of the premier is the competency of the national ANC structure and he also refused to comment further on the matter.
OFM News previously reported that the underfire Mokgoro, along with Cosatu's deployee, Dliso, and others were suspended from the party after they were accused of voting with the opposition.
“The ANC has a particular way of dealing with matters generally, even if we were to remove Mokgoro. It’s not going to be a free for all. There are organisational processes that will be engaged and that process will make recommendations to national, and the national will not just decide and bring names or do anything. It’s the ANC processes, it starts at the province and the province will decide who must replace [the premier],” he adds.
Previously Chauke said the accused defied the party’s instructions and voted with the opposition which allowed the election process to take place through a secret ballot.
In a statement, Chauke said: “We received a report that confirmed that the ANC voting for the position of chair of chairs would be done through a show of hands. Members of the ANC supported a motion by the opposition to allow voting to be through a secret ballot.”
He added that the IPC in the province will not allow ill discipline in the organisation. “Ill-discipline is a serious offence in the ANC. We must correct it where we find ill-discipline and act against members defying the organisation,” Chauke further added.
