NC teachers called to get vaccines as deadline looms─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:02 Tue, 06 Jul 2021

With only two days left to have all the people in the education sector vaccinated, unions in the Northern Cape are calling on teachers and support staff to get vaccinated.
Provincial Secretary of Sadtu, Palesa Nqumashe, and the Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysersunie’s Henk Brand are amongst those who encouraged teachers to get the jab.
Teachers and non-teaching staff are expected to all be vaccinated against Covid-19 by July 8, as announced by Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga. During her visit last week to the Newton Primary School, used as a vaccination site in Kimberley, Motshekga said they are pleased with how the rollout of the vaccination programme for teachers has been proceeding. With the province having vaccinated over 50% of the target population, Motshekga said she was confident the province will meet the deadline.
Meanwhile, unions are appealing to teachers and support staff to make their way to vaccination sites in their numbers. Their call also comes just a day after OFM News reported on a similar call made by the Education MEC Zolile Monakali.
A total of 582 000 persons in the education sector across the country are expected to be vaccinated by July 8.
