#NWANC's IPC condemns Nkandla travellers | News Article

The North West ANC's Inter-Provincial Committee (IPC) has condemned ANC members in the province who travelled to Nkandla in the uThungulu district in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend to support former president Jacob Zuma amidst his legal woes.

ANC IPC coordinator in the province, Hlomani Chauke, says it’s disappointing that these members travelled from the province to show solidarity with the former president whilst flouting the Covid-19 regulations.

On Tuesday the acting ANC Secretary-General (SG) Jessie Duarte, said the ANC will be charging the organisers who organised the gathering outside the former president's homestead following the Constitutional Court’s 15-month prison sentence against Zuma. Chauke says Covid-19 causes many miseries and destitution across the province and the action by these members is disappointing.

“So it’s very important that members of the ANC adhere to these regulations and for them to have travelled and go to different areas and do whatever that they are doing, it’s against the regulations, it’s really not correct.

It’s something that we want to condemn because they are putting their lives, families and ordinary South Africans in danger. So this must be attended to and has to be condemned,” he adds.

Meanwhile, the province has 17 628 confirmed, active Covid-19 cases and has been registering over 1000 new cases daily in the few past days.

On Tuesday night, the Department of Health confirmed that the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the North West Province is 102 723 with 82 620 people having recovered from the coronavirus, an 80,4% recovery rate and 2 475 deaths.
