13-year-old Welkom girl still missing | News Article

The 13-year-old Thabong girl who went missing almost a month ago from the Welkom township is yet to be found. Free State police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says police are yet to locate Nthabiseng Molete’s whereabouts.

The teenager was last seen by her mother Pulane Molete on 12 June at 18:00, leaving their home. It’s alleged the 13-year-old, who was dressed in a black pair of pants, yellow jacket and black grasshopper shoes, was accustomed to sleeping over at one of her friends’ houses and it was assumed that she would return. But she never did.

Her disappearance coincided with the abduction, rape and murder of 8-year-old Bokamoso Shabe, who was a learner at the Mmantshebo Primary School in Thabong. Shabe was kidnapped from her school in Thabong on Monday (21 June 2021) at 13:30 by an unknown woman. Her abductors made calls to her grandmother, demanding a R50 000 ransom in exchange for the little girl’s safe return. Subsequent, police investigations into the incident led authorities to the home of 46-year-old Stompie Pule Rapuleng whom, after being questioned led the team to the Riebeeckstad suburb where Shabe’s lifeless body lay wrapped up with a duvet cover in an open field three days after her disappearance. She was still wearing her school uniform.

Rapuleng has since been arrested alongside his alleged girlfriend, 44-year-old Lerato Merriam Kgitsane, for the 8-year-old’s murder. The Shabe family recently told SABC News that the suspects are people they had hired to do repairs to their house. This is yet to be confirmed to OFM News by the police or the 8-year-old’s relatives.
