#TeachersVaccines: FS inoculates over 30 000─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:03 Fri, 09 Jul 2021
The Free State Education Department confirms it has vaccinated over 30 000 teachers and support staff in the province.
Spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says they are appealing to persons in the education sector who have not received the jab to come forward and help curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The province confirmed it had received 33 600 doses and aimed to vaccinate a total of 32 000 personnel.
OFM News on Thursday reported that the Basic Education Department confirmed the deadline to vaccinate all persons in the education sector has been extended from July 8. This, as the number of those expected to be vaccinated countrywide, has been pushed from 582 000 to 789 554.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, briefing the media on Wednesday, said the department had vaccinated over 400 000 educators and non-teaching staff. She confirmed there had been delays in the programme with more support staff needing to be added, and independent schools.
She, however, said they are hopeful all people in the education sector will be inoculated by the time schools reopen on 19 July 2021.
