This, while 83 229 people have recovered from the virus thus far.

Active cases in the province currently stand at 23 286 placing the province 3rd nationally with active cases.

Total deaths in the province stand at 2 584.

North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, says by Friday 9 July, 205 972 people have received the jab.

Sambatha says the North West province should not compare itself with Gauteng or the Western Cape, as the province's population is smaller than both provinces.

He further adds that any increase in new cases in the province is a serious increase because hospitalisation is increasing and the capacity at hospitals, both private and public, is a serious concern.

"If you have more new cases it means you will have more active cases because these cases or individuals have to recover after 10 days of isolation. We request that our people should take isolation very seriously and ensure that none of us that have taken a test is moving around without getting results first," says Sambatha.

The MEC urges people to take a test when in doubt or with they experience symptoms. "Quarantine, receive results and ensure that no-one takes the transmission of the disease further, because it increases the number of contacts," he says.

From the 15th of July, registration will be open for 35 to 49-year-olds to register for the vaccine. Vaccinations for this category will take place from the 1st of August.

South Africa currently has a total of 2 179 297 positive cases, with active cases standing at 211 052 after 21 610 new cases were recorded.
