The surge of Covid-19 cases in North West is a cause for concern.
According to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the province is amongst those seeing a rapid increase in positive cases. Addressing the country Sunday night following a meeting of the National Coronavirus Command Council, Ramaphosa said the province is amongst those with the highest active cases.
He expressed concern that the country has for the past two weeks been registering an average daily increase of over 20 000 new cases. The number of active cases stands at 208 709 with Gauteng having the highest, followed by the Western Cape and North West.
The North West has a total of 110 058 confirmed cases, over 83 000 recoveries, while 2 584 succumbed to the virus. The number of active cases stands at 24 245.
The district of Bojanala, which includes the mining towns of Rustenburg and Madibeng, has the highest positive cases.
Ramaphosa has meanwhile extended lockdown alert level 4 for the next 14 days, extended schools reopening, and prohibited the sale of alcohol, amongst other restrictions.
