Mantsopa mayor addressing sewerage crisis─── 09:23 Mon, 12 Jul 2021
Various areas in the Mantsopa Local Municipality in the Free State, which includes Ladybrand, were visited by the mayor, Mamsie Tsoene, on Sunday, with the hope to address the sewerage crisis.
Accompanied by the mayor and Ward 3 Councillor, Bonini Meya, the water and sanitation team managed to unblock drains, however, there were some drains where the team asked for more time, such as the one near Arthur Pitso Stadium, that will take time to unblock given the seriousness of the conditions.
According to the statement released by the Mantsopa Local Municipality on its Facebook page, one of the residents in Mekokong showed appreciation for the efforts taken by the mayor and claimed that their problems as residents are being dealt with, following her visits.
“The municipality has already appointed a consultant to do a survey on the capacity of our sewerage pipelines. Their findings and recommendations should provide us with permanent solutions,” said Tsoene. It is reported that Tsoene also visited houses that had recurring sewage spillages and the residents told her that they no longer have drain problems.
Tsoene is expected to embark on a Mayoral Clean-up Campaign that will also focus on cleaning water channels in Manyatseng.
