NW residents caution against looting─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:21 Tue, 13 Jul 2021
The North West residents are pleading with each other to desist from any ideas or activities of looting of property in the province.
Concerned residents from Mahikeng and Klerksdorp, amongst others, have been sharing messages of caution, warning against any planned looting. This after shop owners from both the cities closed down their businesses on Monday amidst the looting in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. These protests are apparently driven by the anger following the imprisonment of the former president, Jacob Zuma, by the Constitutional Court.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, previously said the owners at MegaCity Mall in Mahikeng were closing their businesses as a preventative measure.
This as pictures of owners shutting down their businesses in that area continue to do the rounds on social media.
On Monday, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) announced that it has been deployed soldiers to the streets of Gauteng and KZN to help the police deal with riots. SANDF spokesperson, Mafi Mgobozi, in a statement said they commenced with pre-deployment processes and procedures in line with a request for assistance received from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (Natjoints).
