The ANC in the Frances Baard District in the Northern Cape is appealing to residents to refrain from any acts of violence.
This, as messages calling for a shutdown in Kimberley continue to make rounds on social media. The party highlights that damage to property and vandalism to any infrastructure will results in criminal charges.
The party's regional spokesperson, Tshepo Louw, in a statement further cautions against any destructive behaviour by residents over on-going power cuts, stating that they have engaged the Sol Plaatje Municipality on the matter.
He said they are aware that a number of residents are experiencing electricity cuts due to non-payment, but have engaged the municipality on paying residents experiencing similar challenges.
The municipality on Tuesday meanwhile confirmed to the media that there were electricity interruptions in parts of Galeshewe and Roodepan and that electricians were working arround the clock to restore supply to the affected areas.
