The veldfires that began last week have caused damage to an estimated 70 000 hectares of grazing land. Spokesperson, Zimasa Leputla, says several farmers in Thaba Nchu, Koffiefontein, Jacobsdal, Petrusburg, Fauresmith, Soutpan, Bainsvlei, Edenburg, Tierpoort, and many others, experienced losses due to the veldfires. 

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association, Johann Savage Breytenbach, confirms the veldfires have been successfully contained.

Leputla meanwhile confirmed damages as a result of the veldfires include livestock and farm infrastructure, such as buildings and farming equipment, amongst others.

The OFM News team on Tuesday reported from the ground that the MEC for Agriculture, William Bulwane, met with a couple of affected farmers to chat about the way forward.
