#NationalShutdown: Calls for calm continues | News Article

The Black Management Forum (BMF) has called for calm and lawfulness amidst widespread unrest in the country.

The organisation, responsible for the development of managerial leadership and creation of managerial structures that are reflective of the demographics of the broader South African society, cautions against the unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

It highlighted that the unrest cannot be allowed to spiral to other parts of the country. The call by BMF comes amidst growing tension in the country with a number of organisations, including political parties, stating that President Cyril Ramaphosa must do more to address socio-economic challenges faced in the country.

"Whilst we do not condone the opportunistic criminal elements, these unfortunate scenes of looting and the destruction of infrastructure are exposing the socio-economic conditions of our people. The exceptionally high levels of unemployment, poverty, inequality, coupled with the rampant corruption by those in power, calls for serious programmes of economic transformation and the review of our systemic challenges that need to be addressed speedily".

Ramaphosa and several ministers in the economic and security cluster on Tuesday briefed the media on how they will deploy more members of the SANDF to help bring back stability and how they will engage with the private sector regarding affected businesses.
