A total of 1176 police officials in the Free State have so far been vaccinated since the start of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination programme.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, confirms that the said number of men and women in blue have received the vaccine jab by yesterday. On 8 July, SAPS vaccinated 500 members of the South African Police Services (SAPS). Mbambo previously told OFM News that the programme was on Monday 12 July set to be rolled out to other districts in the province, with 16 sites having been prepared for the programme.

"This vaccination programme will assist us a lot because you will remember that we are the frontline service and mostly affected by this pandemic. And, on a daily basis, we saw our SAPS having to close police stations, which affect service delivery, but now with a lot of members (getting ) vaccinated it will minimise the risk of them contracting the virus (and) we also encourage them that as much as they are going to be vaccinated today, they will still need to adhere to the protocols," she said.
