#NationalShutdown: NC police, SANDF confirm readiness─── 06:52 Thu, 15 Jul 2021
The police in the Northern Cape are on high alert patrolling shopping centers, with the national defence force at their side.
This, as violent acts and looting in parts of the country continues. With growing tensions in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, where the country has seen rampant looting of shops and the damage of infrastructure, there are concerns that the violence might escalate to other provinces.
The police in the Northern Cape are amongst those who are now assisted by members of the SANDF to safeguard malls and prevent any acts of violence. Patrolling shopping complexes in Galeshewe and other areas, police spokesperson Mashay Gamieldien, told OFM News they will do their best to ensure the safety of residents, and uphold law and order in the province.
Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele on Wednesday, during a media briefing, confirmed that police officers - together with the SANDF and other law enforcers - will be deployed to all affected areas, including provinces that have not yet been engulfed by the unrest.
