The Northern Cape has reported a total number of 11 012 vaccinations of educators and support staff of the intended number of 14 425 in the province. The Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, has indicated that 3 388 education staff still need to be vaccinated, as things stand.

"We are currently engaging the Department of Health for a possible 'mop-up' programme which will provide those who have not yet been vaccinated, with the opportunity to do so. We must emphasise that the vaccinations have been proven to be safe for those who chose it, with no reports of any adverse effects from the vaccine," said Van der Merwe.

He further cautioned all schools in the province to remain vigilant and adhere to Covid-19 protocols despite 76,4% successful jabs that were taken by teachers and supporting staff.
