#BreakingNews: NW mayor dies─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:59 Fri, 16 Jul 2021
The mayor of the Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West, Maetu Kgaile, is said to have passed on. It's not yet confirmed exactly when the mayor passed on or what exactly led to her death.
Kgaile was recently hospitalised in ICU due to Covid-19.
Kgaile is amongst Troika members, including speakers, chief whips and mayors in the province, who were asked to step down from their positions by the ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC).
In 2018, OFM News reported that she was ousted from her position through the EFF-led motion of no confidence but she was later reinstated in her mayoral position, following the ANC's national delegation intervention, which was led by the current acting Secretary-General (SG), Jessie Duarte.
Mayoral spokesperson Nick Mapheelle, on 13 July in a press statement, informed the public Kgaile has contracted Covid-19 and was self-isolating at home. In her absence, councillor Farouk Tagaree was the acting mayor.
