Vaal taxi operators patrolling Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark CBDs─── 09:51 Sat, 17 Jul 2021
Taxi operators together with other stakeholders, including members of the community, are patrolling the Vereeniging and Vanderbiljpark CBD, in an attempt to prevent looting of shops.
OFM News visited the patrollers in the Vereeniging CBD, and a taxi operator under the condition of anonymity told our reporter that their efforts are already yielding results, as there has been no looting incidents reported.
The taxi operator confirmed some of their members are patrolling the Vanderbiljpark CBD, adding no crowds are allowed to enter the CBD.
Both CBDs are patrolled on a 24 hour system, with local businesses providing food, drinks and fire wood to the patrollers.
Bus operators in the Vaal have also joined the initiative, and are happy with the progress made so far.
