NW Education extends teachers’ vaccination programme─── 09:05 Tue, 20 Jul 2021
The North West Education Department has extended their vaccination programme with the hope of reaching their targeted number after only 71 percent of the education sector's staff members were vaccinated.
The Education spokesperson in North West, Elias Malindi, stated that out of 43 200 educators and support staff that was expected to vaccinate, only 30 677 received their jabs.
Meanwhile, in a statement released by the North West Department of Education, the MEC of Education in the North West, Mmaphefo Matsemela, appealed to the staff to use this opportunity to vaccinate and familiarise themselves with the Covid-19 vaccine and its benefits.
“Once again I make an appeal to the North West education community to familiarise themselves with the Covid-19 vaccine so as to make better informed decisions regarding their well-being. We have extended our vaccine rollout to accommodate the remaining staff. As a department, we are pleased that the closing date for the vaccinations has been extended and the manual capturing will be done on site in order to allow everyone from the sector to be vaccinated. I am calling all educators and the support staff to take this opportunity of the extension, and vaccinate. This initiative will help to strengthen the fight against the monstrous Covid-19,” said Matsemela.
