More soldiers deployed to end Cape Town taxi wars─── 11:22 Wed, 21 Jul 2021
More soldiers will be joining the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Cape Town, to put an end to the ongoing taxi wars.
Since the start of the year, at least 80 people have been killed in taxi-related shootings.
Over the last two weeks, violence has gripped the city once again, despite a peace agreement between warring factions.
At least 120 000 commuters are affected by warring factions who are battling it out over taxi routes.
Golden Arrow buses are operating on a limited schedule following attacks on drivers, exacerbating the situation. The deployment of police, law enforcement and traffic officers in hotspot areas is being bolstered by SANDF members.
Now, local government and police are focused on restoring calm.
