The Covid-19 has claimed the life of yet another ANC councillor in the North West.

This is the second week in a row that the ANC is announcing the death of one its councillors due to complications caused by the virus.

The ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) says it's Moretele Local Municipality councillor, Lucky Motsepe, who succumbed to Covid-19 complications on Wednesday 21 July 2021.

The party has sent its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased councillor.

OFM News previously reported that the Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Municipality's mayor, Maetu Kgaile, was laid to rest on Thursday following her death due to Covid-19 complications.

Motsepe was a serving ward councillor and Member of the Executive Committee in the Moretele Municipality.

The IPC spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, says "Cde Lucky was an accomplished public representative with vast knowledge and experience in Municipal Administration".

He adds that the councillor was instrumental in the founding phase of transitional local councils. "He was appointed as the first Chief Financial Officer of the Moretele Local Municipality and was later appointed the Director of Local Economic Development," concludes Morolong.

So far, the province has recorded at least 2 881 deaths due to Covid-19 whilst active cases stands at 22 507.
