Salga weighs in on municipal troubles─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:48 Thu, 29 Jul 2021
The South African Local Government Association (Salga) has once again expressed concern over the state of municipalities.
The association responsible for local government oversight, says municipal finance woes urgently needs to be attended to.
Following a damning report by the Auditor-General (AG), the association says it is appalling that municipalities do not improve. It says millions spent on consultants without any improvements, need to be recouped. This is coupled with unauthorised expenditure incurred by municipalities.
According to the latest local government audit outcomes report by the AG, municipalities still make use of consultants despite having their own personnel. This includes municipalities in the Free State and North West, amongst other provinces. Municipalities in these provinces are amongst those said to be in need of urgent intervention.
