ANC IPC processes candidates for NW premiership | News Article

The ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) has begun with interviews for both positions of the North West premiership and the Klerksdorp-based Matlosana Municipality's mayorship.

ANC IPC Coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, tells OFM News that these interviews are currently on and three names of candidates for each position have been sent to the national office of the party at Luthuli House. The current premier Job Mokgoro's party membership was suspended a few months ago and things look highly unlikely that he will even be considered for the position. The process in Matlosana follows after the death of Maetu Kgaile, who passed on due to Covid-19 last month. Chauke would not entertain social media posts purporting the young and vibrant youth league leader, 28-year-old Stella Mondlane, who is the Proportion (PR) Councillor as the candidate for the mayorship.

Mondlane, however, this morning (Wednesday) confirmed through Facebook that her name is amongst candidates which have been submitted to the party for the position of mayor.

MEC for Finance, Motlalepula Rosho, has also been touted for the position of the premiership to replace Mokgoro, after the ANC a few months ago announced that his membership was suspended after defying the party’s orders in the Provincial Legislature.

Chauke adds that the party needs people who will be committed and able to implement the ANC manifesto, and also provide services to residents. He further explains that currently rubble in Matlosana has not been collected for the last two or three weeks.

“But it’s because there is no leadership, there is no one who is in charge in making sure that services are provided to our people and we need a caliber of person that will understand the plight of our people, a person who knows that nothing else but to serve the people - that’s what we want. Someone who understands the politics, someone who understands the plight of our people, and someone who knows that our people need water, our people must have roads and young people must have jobs,” Chauke adds.
