Free State police have launched a manhunt following the gruesome discovery of the bodies of five family members on a farm outside Harrismith.
According to police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, the bodies were discovered Saturday morning on Toekoms farm by a traditional healer who allegedly had an appointment with the family.
It is alleged that on his arrival, the traditional healer noticed that the door was not locked, and after knocking and not receiving any response, the traditional healer waited outside for a while. When he saw that no one was coming, he decided to enter the house.
According to Makhele, the traditional healer saw a hand protruding from the sitting room door and he immediately went to alert the neighbour and police were informed.
He further added that the body of a 47-year-old man was discovered with multiple wounds, together with the body of a 41-year-old woman lying next to him - also with multiple wounds.
The bodies of a 16-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl was discovered with multiple wounds in the same room. Furthermore, another body of a 23-year-old male was found lying on the floor in another bedroom, also with multiple stab wounds to his body.
According to Makhele, the matter has been assigned to the Hawks.
