It is alleged the suspect had an altercation with his partner prior to the murder, then fled to the Northern Cape to hide at his brother's house where he was arrested.

According to the North West NPA spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, the 30-year-old made a brief court appearance before the case was postponed for further investigations. OFM News previously reported that the couple had an argument last week after the suspect allegedly saw his girlfriend drinking and talking to another man at a tavern in Vryburg. Subsequent to the quarrel, the suspect allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old with a spade and hid her body underneath the bed when he realised he'd killed her.

The couple lived together in an RDP house in Ganyesa, where the victim's body was found. He is expected to take the stand before the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, the police in the North West have sent a stern warning against any form of gender-based violence, stating that they will leave no stone unturned as the country continues to commemorate Women’s Month.
