UPDATED: #ANCFS to hold a media briefing─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:01 Wed, 11 Aug 2021
The ANC's Free State Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) is on Wednesday set to hold a media briefing at its offices in Bloemfontein, hours after its former party Chairperson, Ace Magashule, appeared in the High Court.
It's not yet known what is on the agenda of the media briefing. However, questions mount whether the ANC will announce their chosen Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality's mayoral candidate. This as the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) took charge of the deliberations to appoint a new mayor for the metro, which has not had one since August 2020.
The party is also expected to touch on its preparations for the provincial conference after Bloemfontein's Supreme Court of Appeal earlier this year ruled that the provincial executive committee was unconstitutional and ultimately disbanded the structure.
This then forced the ANC NEC to appoint a task team led by former president Kgalema Motlanthe, to choose a new ANC provincial leadership. Motlanthe and his team then appointed Magashule's critic and political foe, Mxolisi Dukwana, as the convenor of the IPC.
Part of the IPC's job is to make sure that the FS ANC has a credible and strong leadership before it has a provincial conference.
UPDATE: OFM News' Lucky Nkuyane reports the ANC IPC coordinator, Paseka Nompondo, just announced the current Speaker of the Mangaung Metro, Mxolisi Siyonzana, as their candidate for the next mayor.
