The ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) coordinator, Paseka Nompondo, just announced their candidate to be the next mayor of Mangaung at an ANC media briefing in Bloemfontein.

Siyonzana is expected to officially be elected on Friday during a council meeting. Nompondo said Siyonzana's speaker position will also be filled during the same council sitting.

This as the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) took charge of the deliberations to appoint a new mayor for the metro, which has not had one since August 2020. 

The party is also expected to touch on its preparations for the provincial conference after Bloemfontein's Supreme Court of Appeal earlier this year ruled that the provincial executive committee was unconstitutional and ultimately disbanded the structure.

This then forced the ANC NEC to appoint a task team led by former president Kgalema Motlanthe, to choose a new ANC provincial leadership. Motlanthe and his team then appointed Magashule's critic and political foe, Mxolisi Dukwana, as the convenor of the IPC. 

Part of the IPC's job is to make sure that the FS ANC has a credible and strong leadership before it has a provincial conference.
