A reliable source has informed OFM News that the incoming MEC is a former Mahikeng mayor and provincial secretary for the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL). Cwaile on Thursday announced his resignation as the MEC, following weeks of speculation about his future.

However, OFM News understands that Cwaile was in a catch-22 situation as he was allegedly on Mokgoro's chopping block after he was placed on special leave last week. Following the special leave announcement, Cwaile defied Mokgoro’s directive and stated that, contrary to what was communicated through the media, he was not on leave and continued to carry out his duties as the MEC.

Mokgoro is yet to announce reasons for placing Cwaile on special leave.
