NC police launch school awareness on cyberbullying─── 15:29 Thu, 12 Aug 2021
Cyberbullying has negatively affected the lives of teens lately and in many cases children do not know how to deal with such situations.
Northern Cape police, together with the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), launched its first Cyber Crime Awareness Campaign at Upington High School.
The provincial spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien says the campaign is focused on various grades and aims at educating and informing learners about cyber crime and bullying. Gamieldien says this campaign, which was launched on 10 August 2021, formed part of a two-day launch at Upington High School on the 10th and 11th of August. Gamieldien says the initiative will continue and be rolled out to other schools in the Northern Cape soon. Police spokesperson, Omphile Masegela, says information about different platforms that can be used to report such behaviour was shared with learners.
“They were alerted on activities that mostly takes place on social media platforms and the implications thereof. The learners were cautioned from dissemination of unverified messages, photos and videos.”
“The school management appreciated the police for taking this huge step to engage with learners and the school as a whole, in creating a good relationship among learners and their efforts in assisting to create and ensure a better future for the children,” Masegela says.
