Snowfall in FS blowing up on social media─── 10:39 Sun, 15 Aug 2021
Pictures of snow in parts of the Free State, including Phuthaditjhaba and Harrismith, are doing the rounds on social media.
South African Weather Services forecaster, Elani Heyneke, tells OFM News the snowfall at the moment seems to be over the Lesotho area and south of Qwaqwa.
Heyneke further adds that currently over the Southern and Eastern parts of Lesotho, there is quite a lot of snow.
“The temperature will start to slightly increase from the west today and by tomorrow it should start to increase quite significantly. The only place that will really be cold is along the Lesotho border and the eastern Free State, otherwise it will be cool and then it will start to become warm over the Northern central parts of the Northern Cape,” Heyneke says.
“There was a warning issued for wet, windy and very cold conditions over the eastern parts of the Free State. Towards Wednesday and Thursday of next week, cold temperatures will occur as a result of a cold front so it will be cooler over the Northern Cape province by Wednesday spreading east over the Free State and then the western parts of the North West province by Thursday,” Heyneke says.
