Two cases in NC investigated by police watchdog─── CATHY DLODLO 15:27 Mon, 16 Aug 2021
The police watchdog - the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) - is investigating two separate cases allegedly involving police officers in the deaths of Kimberley residents.
OFM News earlier reported that a 42-year-old man died after allegedly being forced by a police officer to down a bottle of alcohol. He was allegedly arrested for drinking in public.
The national acting spokesperson for IPID, Grace Langa, says the second case involved an off-duty police officer who allegedly fired his service pistol, fatally wounding a 23-year-old man. She says the deceased was swearing and breaking windows at his parent’s house. The police officer then went to him to try to calm him down, but he retaliated by stabbing the officer. The police officer fired several shots and one bullet allegedly struck the civilian in the chest and fatally wounded him.
