Residents in Moqhaka Municipality will have to brace themselves for a water shutdown. This, as the municipality confirms water infrastructure maintenance is underway.

Spokesperson, Dika Kheswa, says they had planned to complete maintenance work to the reservoirs by late this evening, but due to unforeseen circumstances will have to extend the planned shutdown to Tuesday night. He confirms residents mainly affected are those in Kroonstad. Kheswa says the municipality apologises for the inconvenience and assures communities that they will soon have running taps. Meanwhile, communities in Kroonstad and broader areas within the municipality are advised to use water sparingly.

OFM News, over a month ago, reported on how residents in the neighbouring Matjhabeng complained about water cuts due to maintenance work by the Sedibeng Water Board. The planned shutdown by the water board took longer than officially communicated by the municipality resulting in disgruntled residents who then told OFM News how the shutdown posed a health risk to communities as the country continues to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Kheswa from the Moqhaka Municipality says their teams are working hard around the clock to ensure that infrastructure maintenance work reaches completion by August 17 at 22:00.
