IPC coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, in a briefing held in Mahikeng on Tuesday announced that Maape will officially take over from his incumbent. OFM News previously reported that Sunday 15 August was the last day for Mokgoro in office. Chauke said the IPC welcomes the ANC's National Executive Committee's (NEC) appointment of Maape as ANC premier-elect. Chauke says the ANC is confident that Maape has the capabilities to deliver.

The appointment of Maape as premier is intended to entrench the work done by the ANC provincial government and expedite the rollout of radical socio-economic transformation in the province in working together with the IPC and various provincial stakeholders, he said. "Maape will lead from the front as we continue to battle Covid-19 and our economic challenges. The IPC firmly believes that comrade Maape is equal to the task,” he adds.

Maape is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Provincial Legislature after his election as the premier. Chauke says Mokgoro has done his part and managed to stabilise the province but adds that the new premier-elect will carry on and address issues in the province. North West is still under administration and most of its municipalities are in dire financial distress with most of them failing to deliver basic services to the people.

“The ANC in North West welcomes the decision of the NEC to deploy a veteran of the ANC with extensive experience in both the movement and government, as the Premier Elect of the North West Province." The process to deploy Maape followed the interviews of three candidates that were recommended to the national structures by the IPC.

"As we welcome this decision, the IPC further wishes to convey its gratitude to the outgoing Premier, Cde. Job Mokgoro, for his stellar work of guiding the provincial government during the most turbulent times as the Premier. His administrative skills are not lost to the people of our province, and the ANC will continue to benefit from them,” Chauke further adds.
