The North West NPA spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, said that the 45-year-old accused appeared briefly before the Lichtenburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 17 August 2021.  

According to Mamothame, the suspect faces charges of statutory rape, sexual exploitation of children, sexual display or the display of pornography, sexual grooming of children, and sexual assault. He said that the suspect allegedly committed the offences in 2019, when the victim was 15 years old. Mamothame said that the case has now been postponed to 29 September 2021.

"The newly appointed prosecutor from Welkom, in this case, has requested a postponement to allow the investigation officer time to complete compiling new evidence that is much needed to strengthen the state's case," said Mamothame.

The accused will remain suspended from his duties and his R10 000 bail has been extended until his next court appearance.
