There have been twists and turns over the resignation of incumbent North West premier, Job Mokgoro, as premier and Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL).

According to the North West Legislature's spokesperson, Tebogo Chaane, the legislature has not received a resignation letter from Mokgoro. He added that as things stand, Mokgoro is still the premier and MPL.

This, despite the ANC's Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) issuing a statement on Friday in which it thanked Mokgoro for accepting to be redeployed.

OFM News understands that on Wednesday, acting ANC Secretary-General (SG), Jessie Duarte, met with Mokgoro where he criticised the ANC on how it handled the matter.

It's said that he wanted the ANC leadership to apologise before he resigns.

On Friday, the ANC IPC issued a statement and apologised to Mokgoro but he is still yet to resign, both as the premier and MPL, to make way for new premier-elect Bushy Maape.

It's further understood that even if Mokgoro's term had expired as previously mentioned, he would still need to resign as premier.

“We particularly wish to apologise for the discomfort and inconvenience that may have been caused by how the decision was communicated to him. We thank Cde Job for his sterling work during his tenure as Premier of the North West Province. We reiterate our assertion that his administrative skills are not lost to the people of our province and the ANC will continue to benefit from them,” IPC coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, said.
