FS Agriculture to assist with drone licenses─── 16:53 Fri, 27 Aug 2021
The Free State MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, William Bulwane, says his department is focused on getting more young people involved with the new technological developments to assist farmers in the province.
Bulwane says to operate the technology, a license is required, which the department will assist with soon.
Cattle theft and crimes on farms have been amongst the biggest agricultural problems in the Free State. Bulwane urges young farmers to equip and educate themselves, in order to qualify for a license to use this technology. This will play a major role in combatting crime on farms.
Bulwane launched the department's Risk Management Solution Programme on the farm Fortuna between Dewetsdorp and Wepener on Friday, where the latest agricultural technology was demonstrated.
OFM News previously reported that a total budget of about R4.5 million has been allocated for this programme to support 156 farmers. About 1,706 tracking devices and 32 vehicles will be equipped with the anti-hijacking devices to prevent stock theft.
