The North West MEC of Transport, Sello Lehari, has warned road users to be vigilant after two lives were lost in an accident.
Three vehicles collided on the N14 road, outside of Vryburg, and two lives were lost while three others sustained serious injuries.
The North West Department of Transport reported that a VW Polo sedan ran into the back of a truck. The truck driver then lost control and collided with a minibus taxi coming from the opposite direction. The sedan and the minibus burned out after the accident.
Two passengers who were travelling in the minibus taxi were confirmed dead while three people, which include the driver of the sedan, sustained serious injuries.
“This truly is a tragic event. I am at a loss for words. It is very important for road users to stay alert. Always remember that you are not only driving your car, but the one in front of you and the one behind," said MEC Lehari.
The scene of the accident was cleared and traffic flow was reported to be back to normal. Lehari sent his heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
