Fire brigade still fighting N1 fire─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 20:24 Sat, 04 Sep 2021
The Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association confirms it is still battling to contain the fire that broke out on the N1 outside Ventersburg.
The association's Jan de Villiers says they are still hard at work trying to extinguish the fire near the Aldam Resort.
Earlier reports indicated that all the houses and holiday flats at the Aldam Resort had been evacuated in anticipation of the fire approaching the resort.
Motorists are still urged to be cautious and make use of alternative routes.
Villiers has confirmed that the veldfires that broke out in the areas of Dewetsdorp, Thaba ‘Nchu and Ficksburg had been contained.
OFM News earlier reported that the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a High Fire Danger warning for the Free State province this weekend stating that there might be strong winds that cause flare-ups.
